NORTHERN NOVA UNITED SOCCER CLUB - MINI / RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS

The mini/recreational summer season runs weeknights for 10 weeks, from May to July.

U4 U5 co-ed Parent and Player / Active Start-
It is set up as a parent-player program.  Parents are on the field.

Northern Nova United Soccer Club is happy to offer Parent - Player  soccer for our U4 and U5 programs! Parent-Player is designed to provide a fun and developmental soccer experience for our littlest players and their families, creating a strong love for the game of soccer.

The focusis to develop physical literacy through activities that include running, jumping, balancing, kicking, throwing and landing, in a fun setting built around informal play and positive reinforcement (Soccer Canada). This approach helps encourage our player’s overall skill development, confidence and motivation, which supports happy, healthy children, who are active for life.

We want to introduce soccer, but most importantly, we want to have fun and help keep our community active!

Each player is required to have a parent participate with them.  For us, parents’ participation serves several purposes:
  • It creates a more focused environment for your child.  It allows for extra hands and increased direction on the field, giving your child more time with the ball, on task.
  • We want our parents to grow their skills, too! Activities learned on the field can easily be taken home for backyard, active play with your child.
  • Since parents are on the field playing, they are increasing confidence and ability to be a potential coach in the future. The idea that ‘I’ve never played soccer before’ as a barrier from would-be, future parent coaches is more likely removed as you participate with your child.
The club will give your player a jersey, shorts, socks and a ball to keep. They do not need shin pads or cleats.

U6  Parent and Player/ Active Start  –  Stellarton soccer fields. Parents are on the field with their child and coaches involve parents as much as possible in the sessions. The program follows Canada Soccer's Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model and is a mixture of games and exercises created to develop physically literate players. The players are still in the early stages of Physical Literacy, therefore emphasis is on learning body control, while creating individual relationships between the player and ball. This relationship includes the beginning stages of learning how to run with the ball, stop and change direction. Also, passing /receiving/shooting over short distances and introductory goalkeeping skills. The club will give your player a pair of shorts, jersey, socks and ball to keep.  They do not need shin pads or cleats.

U7, U8, U9 FUNdamentals  – Stellarton soccer fields
The goal of the FUNdamentals program is to provide a high-energy, athletic experience that includes focus on the fundamentals of soccer (ball mastery, dribbling, passing, 1v1, & shooting). The U8 program has groups divided by gender. Each night will run using a jamboree format and players will rotate through a series of stations, including mini games. All other stations will be drills with no more than one progression. We want to keep the amount of instruction low and let the game be the teacher.

U10, U11 Learn To Train – Stellarton soccer fields
The goal of the U10 program is to provide a high-energy athletic experience that includes focus on the fundamentals of soccer (ball mastery, dribbling, passing, 1v1, & shooting). Players will be divided into teams. Each night will run using a jamboree format and players will rotate through stations/mini-games.

U12, U13 Learn to Train – Emphasis on individual play and enjoyment of the game. For continued development see competitive soccer.
